Baruntse, 7129 meters high peak, is a technical mountain to climb located in the Khumbu region of Eastern Nepal. Baruntse peak itself is surrounded by Imja Tse and Barun Glacier on north and east. It is bounded by Hinku glacier on the south. Unlike to other peaks, Mt. Baruntse has four ridges and four summits. Some of the risks of climbing Baruntse peak are its snow and hanging glaciers, occasional avalanches and wind.
Mt. Baruntse was first ascended by Colin Todd and Geoff Harrow in 1954 via the south ridge by Colin Todd and Geoff Harrow of a New Zealand expedition team led by renowned mountaineer, Sir Edmund Hillary, who has also scaled Mt. Everest with Tenzing Norgay in 1953 and made history.
Between south ridge and south-east ridge, south ridge is comparatively easier and more accessible to climb Baruntse peak. The steep sections of ice at 50 degrees with a prominent ice cliff for climbing and facing the risk of avalanche make the South-East ridge of Baruntse quite difficult to climb.
The south route also provides ascending opportunity of Mera peak (6476m.) to have better acclimatization before heading to summit mount Baruntse. Great panoramic views and mesmerizing scenery of Hinku valley are additional achievements one can gain while using south route.
October and November in autumn season and April and May in spring season are best period to organize Baruntse expedition. Weather and snow condition usually remain favorable for climbing during these months.

Our experienced climbing guides/ Sherpa, who are in mountaineering for more than a decade, will lead the expedition. We normally provide one climbing guide/Sherpa per climbing member for Baruntse expedition. You will have plenty of time to learn mountaineering skills in the Base Camp that will be useful for you to make a successful attempt of the Baruntse summit. All precautions, possible dangers and tackling measures will be discussed at Base Camp.

On your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be greeted with flower garlands/Khadas. Our representative will then take you to your hotel. If time prevails, you will visit office for paperwork.

Today, you will visit popular world heritage monuments in Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath, Swoyambhunath, and Pashupatinath. Alternatively, you can also choose Bhakatapur and Patan sightseeing. By late afternoon, you will drive back to your hotel.

After early-morning breakfast, our guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive to the domestic airport terminal. Receive your boarding pass and fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2886m.) that takes about 35 minutes. The flight offers you up close views of the Himalayas and romantic landscapes of hills, farms and rivers.After you land at Lukla, you will start your trek from Lukla to Chutanga (3050m.) which takes about 4 hours.

You trek steep ascent path to cross Zatrawala Pass. From here you can enjoy the spectacular views of Numbur Himal, Kongdi Ri, Karyolang peak and many other mountains and peaks. Now you walk along the leveled trail for almost one and half hours and then the trail turns downhill and you trek through this descent path all the way to Zatrabok.

To reach Kothe you trek steep descent path all the way. En route, you pass forests of juniper, rhododendron and other local vegetation. The views you can enjoy are of Mera peak. (Sabal Tsho-Lake) following Hinku Valley (4600m.) takes about 6 hours.You trek along the bank of river and find bush on both sides. The path is gradual ascent and you can enjoy the views of Kusum Kanguru peak and many more.

This will be a rest day to let your bodies recover from the past days of hiking. You will relax and soak up the beautiful views of peaks and glaciers surrounding the head of the Hinku Valley.

Today we will climb above (5,000 m.) for the first time. Our hike up to Khare (5,100m, 16,728ft) is short, but we will take it slowly, with frequent stops to soak up the incredible surroundings. The trail heads eastward out of Tangnag along the lateral moraine of the Dig Glacier. We will pause to climb up the moraine for a view of the pristine Sabai Tso glacial lake. A drop in lake level, caused by a recent rupture of the natural dam the held the lake, is clearly visible. We will arrive at Khare in the early afternoon and have lunch. From Khare, the beautiful north face of Mera Peak is in plain view and Mera glacier spills steeply down into the valley. Stay overnight at lodge.
Rest day at Khare.This is an acclimatization day as you can prepare yourself for the Mera Peak climb.
Today you will travel a short distance, slowly ascending up onto Mera glacier. The climb is initially steep, but flattens out as you reach the crest of the glacier. You will traverse a long flat on top of the glacier as you make your way to the pass, called Mera La (5,400m, 17,710ft). From here, the views are stunning. Crevasse fields gently stretch out in front of the pass and you are literally enclosed by a ring of jagged peaks and blue-green glaciers. The remaining route up to the summit of Mera Peak is clearly visible.

This day you trek gradual ascent path all the way. This area is quite covered by ice glacier. The views make you speechless as you can enjoy the Everest, Makalu, and Baruntse, Kusum Kanguru and many other mountains and peaks in panorama. Moreover you feel chill by the magnificent views of Mera Glacier.

The climb to the summit of Mera starts gradually and much will depend on snow and general weather conditions. Mera actually has three summits; the highest is our objective. We reach this by following a classic snow-ridge to just below the final wall that guards the top. This short steep snow slope is easily climbed but there is a big effort required to climb this last 50 meters. Your reward, however, is a feeling of ecstatic jubilation as you survey the magnificent panorama from the top. After taking pictures and enjoying the view, we descend by the same route back to our campsite at Mera La.

This day you walk along the gradual descent path passing through Tangnang. This is a small village and you find yak settlement here. To reach Kothe you follow the same kind of path. On the way you pass forests covered with fir, rhododendron and local vegetation.
